[ROTORUA “We have hosted a range of domestic and international conferences, supported by professional conference organisers (PCOs) and Tourism New Zealand (TNZ),” says Warren Harvey, business events sales manager for the venues. “Their involvement was key in achieving the desired delegate numbers and exhibitor participation, ensuring successful outcomes for our association clients.” Harvey says one of the major highlights this year was hosting the BEIA MEETINGS tradeshow in June. “The event received excellent feedback from the business events industry, attracting hosted and day buyers, exhibitors, and more. The success of MEETINGS has opened doors to numerous conference and banquet enquiries for the EEC and SHMC for the years 2025 through to 2027.” He says next year is shaping up to be exciting, with Rotorua set to host the TRENZ expo in May. This event will draw approximately 1,200 tourism buyers, delegates, and exhibitors from across the globe. “It presents a fantastic opportunity for us to showcase the capabilities of both venues, further solidifying Rotorua as a top destination for major events,” he adds. “Despite the challenges brought by the Covid-19 lockdowns and the current economic climate, business events at the STRONG 2024 FOR ENERGY EVENTS CENTRE Rotorua’s premier venues, the Energy Events Centre (EEC) and Sir Howard Morrison Centre (SHMC) have had a strong 2024 when it comes to business events. EEC and SHMC remain largely unaffected. Our strong relationships with associations and PCOs, built over years of collaboration, have allowed us to remain competitive and resilient. I am currently managing about 50 conference enquiries for 2025.” “We will be hosting large domestic conferences at the EEC like TRENZ, Water NZ Stormwater Conference, CSANZ25 Cardiac Conference, RANZCO Conference, GPCME Conference and international event, the 5th International Conference on Timber Bridges. “The SHMC is hosting smaller conferences like Women in Governance Conference, Grip Leadership Student Conference, Harcourts Awards Dinner and much more in 2025.” “It’s been almost 20 years since our last major refurbishment, so we wanted to make sure our new rooms reflect our long-standing tradition of excellence and our vision of the future,” says Millennium Hotel Rotorua’s general manager, Pipiana Whiston. The renovation features NZ-designed furniture and bespoke pieces that reflect the essence of Rotorua. “The look and feel of each space has been meticulously chosen by the Millennium Rotorua team to ensure a welcoming aesthetic that meets the needs of group tours, conference guests, and leisure travellers alike,” adds Whiston.
